Light and darkness harmoniously coexist in the new project for Home Base by Quarta & Armando studio in Shanghai, a combination of a functional office and an elegant showroom that introduces the theme of the project of new work spaces.
Home Base is an important company active in the field of design of ceramic made to measure products for the best hotels and restaurants in the world. The company's concept reflects the constant search for improvement of the culinary experience. A research that, in 2019, also translated into the quality of the workspace.
Two opposing souls: office or showroom?
From the disused ruins of a former industrial building of over 320 square meters in the Xuhui district, Quarta & Armando studio was called to create a completely new experience, in which the sphere of work and that of product display interact coherently. The new space distribution, in fact, is an opportunity to combine the more pragmatic functions of the office and the refinement of its showroom. In this way, a single space manages to synthesize the two souls of the company: one facing inward and oriented towards research, the other outward and, therefore, more open to convivial dialogue.
The two areas are designed jointly, creating flexible and open proportions capable of hosting heterogeneous meetings, discussions and events depending on the use. The generous eight meters in height also extend the vertical dimension and make it possible to enlarge the spaces in perspective, giving visitors a memorable perceptive experience, in which light and darkness play a fundamental role in defining visual hierarchies.
The dialogue of lights and shadows
During the promenade, visitors are welcomed by the collections of precious objects. The Ruyi porcelain collection, the company's flagship crown jewel, immediately catches the eye, while the other products are arranged along the backlit shelves that densely populate the space, in a dual relationship of light and shadow that portrays the immersive perception of the environment.
