The important event on the world of construction narrated by its main players
The opening of the ninth edition of MADE expo, the most important event in Italy for the world of construction and architecture, took place on March 13 and ISPLORA‘s editorial staff was there.
The international trade show, held from March 13 to 16 at the Fiera Milano-Rho, was titled “Building connections. The quality of living between design, production and markets".
Made expo 2019: the words of Mayor Sala, the President of FederlegnoArredo Orsini and President Buccilli
"The theme of the 2019 edition of MADE expo - said Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan - demonstrates how this event has grown over the years. Emphasizing the 'quality of living' means that the construction and architecture sectors know how to grasp the needs of the present and want to deal with the challenges that the contemporary world offers. Today cities and citizens are demanding innovation and efficiency: it is necessary to build and when necessary, to rebuild better. Urban development must be sustainable at an environmental and social level, in other words it must be carried out with respect for the territory, enhancing and enriching the communities that live in the neighborhoods of our cities. MADE expo once again underlines these facts through the exhibitors’ proposals in what is one of the most important international events for the entire construction sector ".
The Mayor’s words were followed by Emanuele Orsini’s, President of FederlegnoArredo, event promoter, who stated: “In an economic scenario that in recent months has seen construction undergo a new and worrying slowdown, a decisive intervention by the institutions is increasingly urgent in order to reactivate a strategic sector whose recovery would lead to immediate growth in GDP and which would give a fundamental boost to the country’s development. The edition of MADE expo which opens today represents a first encouraging sign of confidence, thanks to the participation of almost a thousand exhibitors who by believing in an innovative exhibition design and project have invested important resources, aware they are playing a key role in the relaunch of innovative and sustainable construction that is attentive to the socio-economic changes underway in society".
Massimo Buccilli, President of MADE expo, added: “MADE 2019 promises to be full of initiatives with the presence of numerous industry players who will be able to spread innovative practices with a view to exchange, enrichment and mutual growth”.
ISPLORA’s interviews at MADE expo 2019
The show in Milan on Architecture, Design and Construction (MADE) therefore represents the opportunity to contribute to the relaunch of a sector which, according to the data provided by Ance (National Association of Building Companies) represents 8% of GDP, as well as a view into the entire building industry, made of ideas and innovations. A narration and catalog which include four specialized areas divided into eight pavilions: construction and materials, envelope and doors and windows, interiors and finishes, software, technologies and services.
For these reasons, ISPLORA’s editorial staff moved to MADE during the event to meet its protagonists, discover the events planned, meet the designers and companies which are the soul of this event.
An event which focuses not only on the issues of living today, comfort, safety, sustainability and innovation, but mostly on continuing education and the promotion of the construction sector through events, lessons and courses. Therefore the presence of professional associations and national councils is not surprising, as that of CNAPPC (National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservationists), as well as sector associations and federations.
The solutions of contemporary living and the situation of the Italian construction sector were at the heart of the interviews carried out by ISPLORA during the event, in particular to Emanuele Orsini, President of FederlegnoArredo, and Massimo Buccilli President of MADE and CEO of Velux Italy.
At the same time, the issues connected to continuing education and the promotion of architecture and the world of construction were discussed with Simona Martelli, General Director of the Fondazione Promozione Acciaio (Foundation for the Promotion of Steel), and Simona Finessi, founder of the Archmarathon Awards.
Archmarathon, along with B[uild]SMART, represented a true “event in the event”, thanks to a number of lessons and seminars.
In fact, during the three days of the show some of the architects who will take part in the prestigious Archmarathon Awards next November in Miami were selected. The competition, which aims at raising awareness on the relationship between design and human beings, allowed projects by important international architecture firms to be presented during MADE.
ISPLORA was able to analyze some of these topics in depth through the voice of their designers: from the project for a “cluster” wellness spa by Slovenian firm ENOTA, to the “curative” architecture by Snøhetta, through the idea of “upcycling” by means of containers by LOT-EK and the “horizontal”, almost “mystical”, architecture of Dutch firm KAAN Architecten for the Crematorium Siesegem.
B[uild]SMART, the other important MADE event, compared different worlds through lessons and courses: production and research, design and management of buildings in the sign of some key words: comfort, safety, sustainability and innovation. Different players in the world of construction took part, including architect Antonio Belvedere from the Renzo Piano Building Workshop firm, which we had the pleasure to meet to discuss the opportunities connected to continuing education and the promotion of architecture.
