The narration of the Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia (AF517) unfolds through the words of its founder, Alfonso Femia, who retraces the story of the firm through its projects, themes and geography. 

Starting from the experience of 5+1AA, since 2017 the firm has been structured around a multidisciplinary team and three offices: Genoa, Milan and Paris. 

The work and research that emerge in the ArchiTALKS highlight a continuous relationship with the city, a dialogue on forms and transformation, in order to pinpoint the identity and role of contemporary architecture.  

A journey by sea and land, visiting the projects designed by the firm: from the Docks in Marseille to the BNL-BNP Headquarters in Rome, the “Horizontal Tower” in Milan or the spatial experience of the “Magic Cube 240”. 

Projects where “contamination” becomes a crucial element in the journey, along with “courage” and “dialogue” with the environment and man.

Educational objectives

• The lesson will highlight the possible role of contemporary architects, through projects and research works
• The references, topics and issues that underlie professional practice will be revealed
• During the lesson, compositional and building issues will be dealt with, thanks to an experience made of projects of international caliber
  
• The course will highlight the topics that characterize Atelier(s) Femia’s action: from time as a design element to the importance of a dialogue with the city and the actors in the process
